| Rotterdam is not only a symbol of economic recovery of the post-war and offers much more than docks and industrial areas of frenetic activity. The city has become one of the most important cultural centres in Holland. Although after the war it was little more than a pile of rubble, Rotterdam now has one of the most important universities in the country, a park with interesting museums inside it and a large zoo.
One of the largest attractions of the city is its port, among the largest in the world. Several agencies each day organise visits to the port area, where they see container docks, the shipyards and the dry docks. One of these visits, which may last up to an hour and a half, can be organised with Spido Tour.
Early September sees the World Port Days, an event that attracts those wishing to admire numerous types of boats. |
