| Manchester has a food selection that is one of the largest in the United Kingdom. It is an international city and ideal for anyone wanting to try exotic dishes without travelling abroad. For oriental tastes, you can go to Chinatown, where old traditions mix with modern tastes. A very good place to eat is Pacific, which won the City Life Restaurant of the year award in 1999. For Indian food and curries, you must go to The Curry Mile, very famous throughout England and dedicated to Hindu food. For an amusing dinner, you can go to one of the restaurants that proposes a theme and the waiters dress up, for instance a Jacobean Dinner, or with vampires... this is great fun!
Apart from eating, there are curious places to visit in Manchester such as Animal World, where you can see rare and tropical birds and also a marvellous collection of butterflies, and for the bravest there are reptiles and spiders from Latin America.
In St. Peter’s Square, the city centre, a very imposing neoclassical building houses the Central Reference Library, with many reading rooms. There are all kinds of books: laws, languages, local information, articles, etc. and the library often receives art exhibitions. There is a theatre and a cafe in the basement. |
