| On the first Sunday of September at 9 p.m. begins the Saint’s Procession, known popularly as “sa processó més típica de Mallorca”, held in Santa Margalida since 1792, when the religious Catalina Tomàs was beatified by Pius VI.
The procession is presided by the Saint on foot and accompanied by the authorities, different groups of “xeremiers”, a multitude of peasants, devils, music bands and 12 spectacular floats reproducing the most salient episodes in the Saint’s life. The most outstanding part of the festival are the races of the devils, who try to take jugs from the peasants and break them on the ground in front of the Saint. The procession is closed by the sound of the devils breaking the jugs in the church square. |
