| In October we have the famous Fiestas del Pilar, in honour of the well-loved patron saint “La Virgen del Pilar”. These festivals have been declared of tourist interest for the different manifestations of Aragonese folklore, such as the offerings of flowers and the “Rosario de Cristal” (Glass Rosary).
But maybe the most striking and amusing festivals are those recalling the Battles of Moors and Christians, when the townspeople dress up as Moors or Christians with swords, sticks and shields to stage the ancient medieval battles of the ‘reconquista’.
The Fiestas de la Primavera (Spring Festivals) are held in May, when the countryside of Aragon is at its greatest splendour, during which there is a national exhibition of sculpture and painting. |
